關於《奇妙的約會》 

六十年代中期後的國語歌壇，隨著歌后美黛演唱了當紅電影《意難忘》一舉成名後，紫薇、姚蘇蓉等來自台灣的藝人相繼進軍香港樂壇，在當時掀起了一股台灣歌曲的熱潮。同時間也有多位男歌手趁勢搭上這股熱潮，如謝雷、青山，以及這位在台灣開啟事業，緊接成功轉戰香江樂壇的「洪鐘」。 

不同於謝雷、青山等深受日本傳統歌謠唱法影響的男歌手，洪鐘的音樂偏向當時香港樂壇主流的所謂「時代曲」。洪鐘親自改編英文曲《The Laughing Policeman》成為《奇妙的約會》一曲，一舉打開香港樂壇的知名度。他在這首歌裡展現出詼諧有趣、但難度艱澀的「笑嗓」絕活，立即吸引了多數樂迷的目光，旋即與香港百代唱片公司簽約，出版第一張專輯《美麗的回憶》，專輯中一曲《心上人》更成為流行金曲。 

洪鐘歌聲豐富多變，《奇妙的約會》一曲所展現的笑嗓絕活令人耳目一新。但洪鐘真正令人折服的是他那時而高亢嘹亮、時而呢喃低吟的絕佳歌藝。比方《半個月亮》、《莉露》都是洪鐘抒情歌曲的經典。 

據說，洪鐘為了唱這首歌曲，還特別去練過，因此與Charles Penrose放肆笑聲的版本最大不同點是他的宏亮笑聲相當特別。
